April 30, 2021: Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Dr. Stephen Hahn provided an update on the FDA status of all Covid-19 vaccines as of April 28, 2021. Dr. Hahn, also serving as an oncologist and Chief Medical Executive of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, made the following commitments publicly and explicitly:
"The FDA will not authorize or approve any Covid-19 vaccine before it has met the agency's rigorous expectations for safety and effectiveness. Decisions to authorize or approve any such vaccine or therapeutic will be made by the dedicated career staff at FDA through our thorough review processes and science will guide our decisions. FDA will not permit any pressure from anyone to change that. I will fight for science Mr. Chairman. I will fight for the integrity of the agency and I will put the interests of the American people before anything else."
From Dr. Hahn's update, we can conclude that all Covid-19 vaccines in the field have not yet been approved or authorized but rather granted an experimental use exemption from the FDA. Notwithstanding, it is clear that all Covid-19 vaccines in use have not satisfactorily met all FDA requirements and rigor and are deemed experimental at this point. Share this information widely as it should be one of several major factors considered in the decision to vaccinate or not.
